Barack Obama has released a rare statement after Donald Trump claimed the former president was ‘guilty’ of ‘treason’.
Obama’s spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush shared a statement to media on Tuesday, which read: “These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction,”.
“Russia-gate” allegations came forth from a report issued by the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard – who claimed Obama and his officials committed a “treasonous conspiracy” in the investigation into Russia’s part of the 2016 election.
Russia has always denied any interference and Trump labelled the investigation a “hoax”.
Gabbard claimed she had meant Obama’s administration, such as ex-FBI director, James Comey – for prosecution over allegations that “manufactured” intelligence had impacted the election to benefit Trump.
Maria Bartiromo was interviewed on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures and accused Obama of manufacturing a “years-long coup” to keep Trump away from the position.
The president shared an AI-generated video of Obama being arrested and put in jail, on his Truth Social page.
On Tuesday in the Oval Office, Trump shared: “It’s there, he’s guilty. This was treason,” , “They tried to steal the election, they tried to obfuscate the election. They did things that nobody’s ever imagined, even in other countries.”
Obama has since released a statement in return: “Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response,” Rodenbush wrote. “But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one.”
“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction. Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes,” he added.
